How to Program a Merlin M802 Blue Compatible Garage Remote (Prolift 230T / 430R)

Pair a compatible Merlin M802 Blue remote to a Prolift 230T / 430R opener: find the Learn button, hold it for 1 to 2 seconds, press the remote twice and test.

Before you start Make sure nobody is standing under or near the door while you program and test. Do this within a few metres of the motor so you can test straight away. Keep the remote and its battery away from children; if a coin or button cell is swallowed, seek immediate medical attention. If you need to open the motor housing, switch the power off first and only remove the cover the manual refers to. If you are not confident working near the motor, ask a garage door technician.

Merlin openers store a new remote through a Learn button. The hardest part is finding it, since it is hidden in a different place on each style of opener. Once found, programming is one hold and two presses.

Before you start

Identify your opener type from step 1 and 2 so you know which cover to remove. Have the remote ready before you press Learn.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Find the Learn button on your opener

    Overhead openers with five exposed terminal screws: remove the small black cover to the right of the screws; the red button under it is Learn. Roller door openers with a small square red button: remove the lamp cover and the small black cover left of the lamp holder; the red button under it is Learn. Openers with a Merlin wired wall switch: the small button on the wall switch is Learn.

  2. Other openers and receivers

    Openers with a large red or green push switch: remove that control panel cover and find the button marked Learn. Dark grey boxed receivers with a big round green button: Learn is the small dark grey button inside the green one. Gate receiver cards: Learn is the small tact switch on the board marked Learn.

  3. Hold Learn for 1 to 2 seconds

    Press and hold the Learn button for 1 to 2 seconds, then release. The opener is now listening for a remote.

  4. Press the remote button twice

    Press the button on the new remote that you want to operate the door two times. The opener stores the code.

  5. Test the remote

    Press the programmed button once. The door should move. Repeat from step 3 for any additional remotes.

Frequently asked questions

I do not have my original remote. Can I still program this one?
Yes. This remote pairs directly with the Merlin motor or receiver using the learn button, so an original remote is not required.
Can I make a second button control the opener light?
Yes, if your opener has a lamp. Press the remote button you want to use for the light, hold Learn for 1 to 2 seconds, press the main door button once, then press the light button once.
I cannot find a button marked Learn.
Check the opener's own user guide, or look for any small button on the circuit board marked Learn. On many Merlin openers it is red and hidden under a small black cover.
The door does not respond after programming.
Make sure you pressed the remote button twice after holding Learn. Try again standing closer to the opener, and check the remote's battery.
Does the remote come with a battery?
Yes, a battery is pre-installed. If the LED on the remote does not light when you press a button, replace the battery before troubleshooting the programming.
